The Artist

Charles was born in Charlotte in 1968, and both of his parents are also native North Carolinians. During his childhood, Charles and his family would spend their summer vacation traveling and visiting family in all parts of the state. During this time, Charles developed an appreciation for the beauty of the every day scenes in his home state.

His artistic talent was discovered by his parents around the age of six.  They encouraged further developement by placing him in a private drawing course where he was exposed to many different mediums and how to use them to create what he saw.

During high school he continued to paint while taking elective classes in art.  After graduation, he went to Louisburg Junior College where he was exposed to many more concepts that allowed the further growth of his talent.  He transferred to East Carolina University and received a bachelors degree in 1996.

He then moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. and began using his talent in a more structured way.  The owner of the Wharf Restaurant in Nags Head where Charles worked, allowed him to display his art at the restaurant.  As patrons started to inquire about the artist's work his confidence rose. He began to offer his art for sale and to enter art festivals.

Charles continued this part-time venture until he secured a postion with the state in Warrenton, NC.  It is there he met Cristina, fell in love, and got married.

From the very beginning, Cristina recognized the passion Charles had for his painting and felt that he should focus on it full time.  Charles agreed and now devotes all of his time to his God given talent.

Charles is a realist and he believes that each medium can produce a different effect that contributes to the interpretation he desires in his finished pieces. Because of his utmost attention to the smallest of details, he will often spend over sixty hours on one work of art.

Charles continues to create in his studio located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, across from the old train depot in Bryson City, NC. After moving to the mountains, Charles learned that in the 1930s his late grandfather worked in the same building that the gallery now occupies.
